Book Clubs for Home Educated Children
We had a good turnout for our November meeting which was full of excitement from wonderful children eager to discuss their books. We continue to meet in the “J” Room of the Tucker Free Library on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:30. Our next meeting will be December 10th, 2008 – please join us.
The Chapter Book club (7/8+yrs) reviewed Skylark by Patricia MacLachlan. The children worked together to complete a story web and discussed some difference between living by the ocean or on the prairie. They wrote down and placed in a box the things that they would want to take with them if they were to relocate. Next month they will be reading Helen Keller by Margaret Davidson.
The Children’s Literature club (4-7/8 yrs) book selection for November was Paddington Bear by Michael Bond. The children love Paddington! They worked to develop a story web and discussed Paddington’s journey and adventures. They talked about how the “real” Paddington came to be and how they could create their own characters and story. The children played a game to help Paddington find a home and created their own Paddington bookmark to take home with them. Our next book selection is White Snow, Bright Snow by Alvin Tresselt.
The book club is a chance to get the children together to share and discuss quality literature in a social setting. It is fun learning! Contact Jody at imagineagain@tds.net for more information.
