TRIALS OF EARTH

Who would believe that a woman who lived from 1866 to approximately 1936 and settled in the Mississippi Delta could have written a book about her life that would resonate with people living in the 21st century? Mary Hamilton wrote the story of her life with its challenges: dauntingly hard work, limited medical assistance, heartbreak and relationship questions; as well as its joys and accomplishments. One realizes in reading the that people today deal with many of the same issues. in the late 1800s and early 1900s relationships were critical to survival as well as for happiness. The role of women in that society makes a modern woman very grateful for current changes in our country. This book is a delight to read with fascinating details from that time in our country's history. I recommended it to my 90 year old mother, and she enjoyed it as much as I did.
