Last December, the Trustees hosted a community lamp lighting ceremony on a blustery evening.  Henniker residents turned out in force to see the restored lamps turned on.  Some audience members remembered the lamps before they were removed 35 years ago.  Others were seeing them for the first time!  This marked the beginning of a series of events that has given staff and trustees a chance to interact with our community, showing off the wonderful attributes of the Tucker Free.

In January and February trustees hosted two Sunday afternoon library tours.  These tours generated a lot of interest, with well over 55 people attending. Trustees talked about the issues facing the library while discussing dreams for the future.

Not only did town residents have a chance to see the hidden nooks and crannies in the “What’s Behind That Door?” tour but participants had a chance to share their stories and memories of  TFL.  Trustees asked everyone in attendance what their vision of future library service should look like in Henniker.  More specifically, what direction the community would like the library trustees to take going forward.

Every chance we get to generate excitement for this library is time well spent.  We remind everyone that the staff and trustees of the library are simply stewards of this building.  It is the people who recognize the benefits of a strong community library that make it the spectacular library that it is.  The Tucker Free Library belongs to the residents of Henniker, it is yours! Use it, Support It, Embrace It, BENEFIT from IT!  It really is one of the best small town libraries in New Hampshire (and maybe even one of the best in the New England region)!!! JMHO, and I may be a little biased.

(If you missed the tours please feel free to share your thoughts with us at tuckerfree@comcast.net.  If you are in a community or civic organization and would like to arrange a private tour let us know. We also ask if anyone would be interested in joining a BUILDING COMMITTEE or helping us regenerate the FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY group to email us as well.)
